Advancing Women CEOs in Co-ops: ICA’s workshop in China

International Cooperative Alliance A-P in collaboration with China’s ACFSMC is organizing a two day workshop on the theme of “Advancing Women CEOs in Co-operatives” in China.

Ms. Wang Xia, President, All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives will welcome the participants today. The keynote address would be given by Mrs. Alexandra WILSON, ICA Global Board Member &CEO of the Agency for Co-operative Housing, Canada.

Slated for April17 to 19, 2018 in Guiyang, Guizhou Province of China, the event is going to witness an assembly of several cooperators from the region. The theme of the workshop is “Re-work, Re-imagine and Re-shape: Advancing Women CEOs in Co-operatives”, according to the website of ICA AP.

The website also talks of a Welcome Address by Balu Iyer, RD, ICA-AP, by Mr. Yang Rui, Vice President of ACFSMC and by Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, Vice Chairperson, ICA-AP and President National Cooperative Union of India. But NCUI sources say Yadav may not attend the Workshop.

Panel discussions are to take place on many interesting issues such as “The case of the missing women Chief Executives: Breaking down the current scenario of the gender gap in executive leadership of Co-operatives Objective”, Creating awareness on the status of women’s participation at the top executive level in co-operatives and the need for ‘Political Will’ to promote gender equality in decision making.

The list of moderators include IFFCO’s R.P. Singh, Chairperson, ICA-APHRD Committee, Dr. Nandini Azad, Vice Chairperson, ICA-AP Women’s Committee, Ms. Sylvia O. Paraguya, CEO, National Confederation of Coops Inc., the Philippines, among others.

Some of the women cooperators taking part in the workshop incude Ms. Christie Rowena C. Plantilla, Chief Executive Officer Federation of People’s Sustainable Development Cooperatives (FPSDC), Ms. Dolly Goh, CEO, SNCF, Singapore, Ms. Melina Morison, CEO, Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), Australia, Ms. Karuna de Silva, CEO, National Cooperative Council of Sri Lanka (NCCSL), Ms. Adleen Karajah, Executive Director, Palestinian Agricultural Cooperative Union (PACU)

Some other women participants include Ms. Namya Mahajan, Managing Director of SEWA Cooperative Federation, India, Ms. Inja Park, Chairperson, iCoop, Korea, and Ms. Anam Mittra, Communication Officer, ICA-AP.
