PM Modi in Radha Mohan’s constituency today

Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh is a busy man as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is joining the nation in celebrations of the concluding ceremony of Centenary of Champaran Satyagraha in Motihari, Bihar today.

Singh and his team has been active preparing for the Prime Minister’s visit for quite a while. Even yesterday he took a march with volunteers in the town to create a right kind of ambiance for the PM’s visit. Modi is to address 20,000 Swachhagrahis or the Ambassadors of Cleanliness in Motihari on this occasion.

Swachhagrahis are the ‘foot soldiers’ and motivators to implement the Community Approaches to Sanitation (CAS) at the village level. Swachhagrahis are key to driving progress towards achieving an open defecation free nation.

It bears recall that Mahatma Gandhi launched the Champaran Satyagrah over a century ago, on 10th April, 1917 against the British to fight for the rights of farmers who were forced to undertake indigo cultivation. April 10th, 2018 marks the end of the centenary year celebrations of the Champaran Satyagrah, and is going to be celebrated through the “Satyagrah se Swachhagrah” campaign.

Prime Minister will also unveil several development projects on this occasion such as laying of foundation stone of Motijheel Project, Bettiah Nagar Parishad water supply scheme under AMRUT four sewerage projects, worth Rs 1111.56 Cr aimed at creating a sewage-treatment capacity of 60 million litres daily for Patna, under Namami Gange.

Modi would also cut ribbon for the doubling of Railway lines between Muzaffarpur and Sagauli, and Sagauli and Valmikinagar. He would also green-light Motihari-Amlekhgang Oil Pipeline Project. He would also dedicate the first phase of Madhepura Electric Locomotive Factory to the Nation.

Flagging off of First 12000 HP Freight Electric Locomotive and Champaran Humsafar Express as well as distribution of awards to Champion Swachhagrahis are some other highlights of Prime Minister’s visit.

In run up to the preparations aimed at receiving the Prime Minister both NCDC and NCUI have been active, among others, says a source.
