When others are doing it why should Milma stay behind? The Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) will increase the price of milk by Rs.5 a litre from Monday. Milma chairman P.T. Gopala Kurup said that the prices of all varieties of milk distributed by the cooperative body would go up from Monday.

From Amul to Sudha to Mother dairies-dairy cooperatives are passing through acute phase as rising inflation has pushed the price of cattle feed. This has in turn pushed price of milk across the states.

The price per litre of double-toned milk would go up from Rs.22 to Rs.27, toned milk from Rs.23 to Rs.28, homogenised toned milk from Rs.25 to Rs.30, homogenized Jersey milk from Rs.25 to Rs.30, non-homogenised Jersey milk from Rs.25 to Rs.30, Rich Plus milk from Rs.26 to Rs.31, and standardised milk from Rs.26 to Rs.31.

The revised price of skimmed milk curd would be Rs.17 for a 500-gm pack. Milk and milk products would be sold in packets containing the old price for some more time because of the delay in getting packets with the new prices printed on them. Milma was taking steps to start using the new packets as early as possible.

Milma proposed to make milk distribution smooth by procuring more milk from other States. It sought the cooperation of all consumers. Mr. Kurup said dairy farmers would get Rs.4.20 of the hiked amount. Dairy cooperatives, distributing agents, and regional unions would get 20 paise each.

The remaining 20 paise would be used for creating a fund for meeting the increase in expenditure caused by the hike in the price of petroleum products and packing expenses.
