Dairy Farmers’ Welfare Trust of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Farmers Union has made an announcement that the trust would make finances available for five children of farmers to do courses in veterinary sciences for a period of five years.
Raviraj Hegde president of the trust said this scheme is being undertaken against a background of scarcity of trained veterinarians. The trust president was talking to journalists in Mangalore.
Mr Hegde lamented the fact that most of the young men are not willing to work in the dairy sector and are always seeking opportunities in the govt. departments. Mr Hegde said the dairy sector could barely rival govt and other jobs for glamour.
According to an estimate, Karnataka immediately needs at least 7 to 8 hundred veterinary doctors.
The trust has also resolved to help those students who are studying agriculture and dairy sciences.
