Amul: Parmar’s panel wins third term

By Parasnath

Ramsinh Parmar, the lone Congress cooperator holding onto the last bastion of Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, also known as Amul Dairy was declared elected in a keenly contested election on Tuesday. The results were out on Wednesday.

B S Patel, deputy collector of Anand who was the returning officer for the elections confirmed the development. More than 1000 voters exercised their voting rights.

Kaira milk union-the oldest in GCMMF kitty and the one from where the milk revolution took off, has 13 members on its board. The polls were held for 11 seats as two candidates were declared won uncontested ahead of the polls.

But it was also first time that two BJP backed candidates and one independent director made it to the Board. Parmar’s deputy in the dairy and another Congress MLA Rajendrasinh Parmar too has won the poll battle from Borsad.

The much-watched election saw fight between two panels –one led by Parmar and another led by Vipul Patel are eager to take on each other. Parmar, who is Congress MLA is believed to have supported Vipul Chaudharay, the former GCMMF Chairman in whatever the latter decided to do.

The victory of Parmar would ensure that there is some fire-works in the future Board meetings of the apex body GCMMF, quipped a cooperator jokingly. Parmar has been serving as Kaira chairman since 2006. He was re-elected in 2009. This is the third time that he has won.
