The election process of Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Limited popularly known as Amul Dairy is underway and several veteran leaders of BJP and Congress are in the fray. The election has taken an interesting turn as 31 candidates are in the race for the 11 seats of directors on the board.
At least two legislatures are also in fray. Kanti Sodha Parmar, Congress MLA from Anand constituency and Govind Parmar BJP MLA from Umreth constituency are also contesting the election.
Former Chairman of GCMMF and outgoing Chairman of Amul Dairy Ramsinh Parmar have been elected unopposed. The voting is scheduled to take place on 29 August and the counting of votes will be done on 31 August 2020.
The board comprises 13 elected directors out of which two directors including Ramsinh Parmar were elected unopposed. There will be no election for the lone seat representing lifetime members as only a single candidate had filed his nomination for the seat.
Talking to Indian Cooperative Outgoing Vice-Chairman Rajendra Parmar said, “31 candidates are in the race for the 11 seats of directors on the board. Though there is no panel and all candidates are contesting elections independently”.
“There are 1200 eligible voters who will cast their votes during the election. One director from one block is elected. The directors come from 12 blocks located in Anand, Kheda and Mahisagar district of Gujarat. Leaders from BJP and Congress are fighting the election”, he informed.
He further said, ”My constituency falls in Borsad Block and only one candidate is fighting the election against me. There are 94 voters and I hope that 85 voters will cast their votes in my favor. I have been on the board of Amul Dairy since 2006″, Parmar underlined.
Readers would recall that the last day of submitting nominations was August 13. The board term is for five years. During the 2018-19 financial year the turnover of society was around 7 thousand crore.
