NAFED Chairman loses MLA race in Delhi

Bijender Singh Chairman of NAFED, the largest agri-cooperative lost the race for a berth in the Delhi Assembly. An old timer Mr Singh conceded Nagloa Jat MLA seat to his nearest rival Manoj Kumar Shokeen of BJP.

However, Bijender Singh polled an impressive 46,300 votes in a election which reduced the Congress party to a poor third with merely 8 seats in its coffer.

Mr Singh was busy campaigning for last six months and missed out on several important cooperative events including ICA election at Cape Town. He was also not to be seen when NAFSCOB and NCUI jointly launched a workshop aimed at protesting NABARD bid to reduce PACS to the status of business correspondent.

Readers would recall that Bijender Singh is also the Chairman of NAFSCOB-the apex cooperative federation of state cooperative banks.

Indian Cooperative attempt to contact Mr Singh after the announcement of election results could not succeed. It is expected that Bijender Singh would now focus more on his cooperative role as his political fortune has come under cloud for the moment.
