I am staying in a CHS ltd and would like to know whether I have to pay vat to the builder as I am the second owner of the house and the society is also demanding to pay otherwise they will start cutting from my maintenance bill with 21 percent of full amount and also to mention fee months back the builder was charging me 40000 for vat and now he is saying i am giving 50 percent discount and you have to pay only 20000 .I dont know whats going on

The Society cannot have anything to do with VAT as that is on sale/purchase of flat and Society is not a party to either. Builder’s claim could be challenged, but not worth it.the Courts have held VAT as a legal levy.
