I am a joint member in Ispat pally cooperative housing society,Durgapur-12,West Bengal. I have share certificate with my father. My father is a Principal member of this society. Now he is 84 years old and bed ridden. Now some bad elements in our society including few board members insist my dad for cancelling this joint membership with my dad.

Because they convinced my dad that joint membership means legal heir in future. That’s why my elder brother and his wife also pressurized my dad for cancelling this membership with me. We are two brothers. My mother has already been expired. We are both married. Now my dad produced a cancellation letter to the society on some false allegation that I am not kind to him.

Now my query is- can society or board members cancel my joint membership on such reasons. Secretary told me that joint member is not a member if it is cancelled he is not even obliged to inform me. Only he will inform my dad.

I C Naik

Joint Membership does not come to an end at the desire of the Principal Member. Either a Joint member resigns or a Principal member dies that Joint member ceases to be so.
