The Gujarat Co-operative Societies Act, 1961

(13) “member” means a person joining in an application  for the registration of a co-operative society which is  subsequently registered or a person duly admitted to  membership  of  a  society  after  registration  and  includes   a   nominal,   associate   or   sympathizer  member;

Section 25(2) provides that

“Subject to the provisions of sub-section (6) of section 28 a nominal associate or sympathizer member shall have such privileges and rights of a member and be subject to such liabilities of a member, as may be specified in the by-laws of the society.

Sub-Section 2 and 6 of Section 28 provides 

Sub-Section 2

“Where a share of a society is held jointly by more than one person, only the person whose name stands first in the share certificate, shall have the right to vote.

Sub-Section 6

“A nominal, associate, or sympathizer member of  a society shall have the right of vote if such right is conferred on him by the bye-laws.”
