Abdul Rasheed

Sir please clarify whether at the time of registration or after registration of a cooperative society, 2 or more member of same family can be member in one cooperative society.

Section 5 of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cooperative Societies Regulation, 1973 read as under:
Section 5. Restrictions on registration:- No society, other than a society of which a member is a cooperative society, shall be registered under this Regulation unless it consists of at least ten persons ( each of such persons being a member of different family) , above the age of eighteen years and residing in the area of operation of the society.

Explanation:- For the purpose of this section, the expression “member of a family” means wife, husband, father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, stepfather, stepmother, son, unmarried daughter, unmarried stepdaughter, stepson, grandson, unmarried granddaughter, unmarried sister, unmarried half sister, brother, half brother, and wife of brother or half brother.

Sir no other provisions of the above Regulations restrict or disqualifies member of same family for admission in any cooperative society.

I C Naik

The first TEN members must be from TEN families after that there is no bar for two families to join the CHS.
