Please let me know whether grandson can be made an Associate Member of the society whose name is in the nomination form.

There is this lady who is 80 years old, single member of the society and having agreement in her name and also share certificate in her name.

She has made the nomination in her grandson’s name and also made application to the society to include his name as Associate member.

Society’s contention is that his name is not in the agreement and in the share certificate.

Please advise whether under such circumstances, he can be made an Associate member of the society just to attend the meetings on her behalf as she is old.

He is not interested in contesting elections and becoming a committee member.

I suggest members of CHS to spend 100 bucks and get a certified copy of their Society’s bye Laws as the law gives that right to every member. Now I have started advising making three zerox of Bye laws and keep one each handy to Chairman Secretary and Manager. Whenever a member approaches with any request look up the Bye Laws to see how to help him/her and avoid a bluff and thus deserve a member or deny him a rightful privilege.

A grandson has to fill up form prescribed at Appendix 7 under Bye law 21 of Model Bye laws 1984 ( or relevant form as per the Society’s registered bye-laws) get it counter signed by Grandma and submit it to the Secretary along with Rs 10. (Rs 100 if the Society s registered after 2001) -and the Share certificate which has Grandma’s name. Grandson must be of 18 completed years or more.
