The Cooperative Ombudsman has directed Latur Multi-State Cooperative Credit Society, Latur, Maharashtra, to refund Rs 2.89 crore along with applicable interest to Rajlaxmi Multi-State Credit Cooperative Society, Yavatmal, within 30 days.
The order follows a complaint filed by Rajlaxmi Society on June 30, 2025, alleging non-repayment of fixed deposits amounting to Rs 7.61 crore invested with the Latur society. While the respondent repaid Rs 4.71 crore in installments, a balance of Rs 2.89 crore remained unpaid despite repeated requests and follow-ups.
During the hearing held on August 19, 2025, both parties presented their cases before Cooperative Ombudsman Alok Agarwal. The Latur society claimed that the unpaid amount was linked to certain “contractual commitments” related to a property settlement between the two entities. However, the Ombudsman noted that no documentary evidence or agreement supported this claim.
Citing the absence of any contractual linkage between the deposits and other transactions, the Ombudsman held the respondent liable to return the remaining amount. The Latur society has been instructed to make the payment with up-to-date interest and submit a compliance report to the Ombudsman’s office immediately thereafter.
