Ombudsman advice to Loni Urban Multi State Co-op depositors

The Office of the Cooperative Ombudsman, Ministry of Cooperation, has issued a circular directing all depositors and members of Loni Urban Multi State Credit & Thrift Cooperative Society Ltd., Ghaziabad (U.P.) to approach the appointed Liquidator for their refund claims.

The move follows two key decisions earlier this year. On February 27, 2025, the Cooperative Ombudsman had ordered the Society to settle all claims with up-to-date interest within 15 days of receiving complaints or claims.

Subsequently, on March 3, 2025, the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies ordered the winding up of the Society and appointed the Deputy Commissioner & Deputy Registrar, Joint Commissioner & Joint Registrar, Cooperation, Meerut Division, as the Liquidator.

The Ombudsman’s office noted that despite these orders, complaints for refunds were still being filed with it under the MSCS Act, 2002. Clarifying the jurisdiction, the circular states that all such matters now fall under the authority of the Liquidator and not the Ombudsman.

Accordingly, all complaints related to Loni Urban Multi State Credit & Thrift Cooperative Society have been disposed of, and depositors are advised to submit their claims directly to the Liquidator.

Both the Ombudsman’s and Central Registrar’s orders are available on the Ministry’s website: www.crcs.gov.in
