Gujarat’s cooperative dairy sector is emerging as a major force of women empowerment, with nearly 36 lakh women now linked to milk production and allied activities across the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new Madhur Dairy Unit-2 at Dashela in Gandhinagar, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said women dairy producers are collectively trading around 3 crore litres of milk every day, generating business worth nearly Rs 200 crore daily through the cooperative network.
Shah said the dairy cooperative movement has transformed the social and economic standing of rural women, who are now becoming key contributors to household income and village economies. He noted that profits generated through cooperative dairies are directly reaching the bank accounts of milk producers, strengthening self-reliance among rural families.
The minister also highlighted the growing role of technology in empowering women livestock rearers. Amul’s AI-based digital assistant “Sarlaben,” launched during the AI Summit, is expected to simplify access to technical guidance and support for rural dairy farmers. Shah described the development as a true reflection of the “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” vision.
