Cooperators are wondering if the results of recently concluded Assembly elections will have repercussions on the looming elections of dairy co-op major GCMMF scheduled for February.
Most heavyweights of the cooperative sector who are connected to BJP came a cropper when they tried their luck in the recent assembly elections in Gujarat. Only a measly three could avoid their defeats, reports Times of India.
The GCMMF’ election will be interesting this time round in that all the 18 dairy unions in the state are controlled by BJP and what the experts feel that the prevailing political sentiment for Congress cannot be wished away.
It bears recall that Anand- a hotbed of dairy co-op movement tilted towards Congress this time with three of its contestants romping home. BJP’s could claim two seats here. Amul’s Chairman Ramsinh Parmar lost to Congress’ Kantibhai Parmar from Thasra constituency in Kheda district.
Cooperator and Congress candidate Amitbhai Chavda has won the election from Anklav seat in Anand District. Amul Vice-Chairman and congress candidate Rajendrabhai Parmar has won the election from Borsad seat in Anand District.
Cooperator and congress candidate Kantibhai Sodha Parmar has won the election from Anand constituency.
Amul Dairy’s chairman Ramsinh Parmar, the last non-BJP chairman, recently left Congress to jump on the BJP bandwagon but he also seems to have miscalculated, felt locals.
