All cooperative banks in West Bengal have decided to conduct cyber forensic audits to counter the rising threat of cybercrime, following losses of about Rs 35 crore to fraud last year, media reports said.
Weak cybersecurity systems, compared to PSU and private banks, have made cooperative banks vulnerable, with ATM card data stolen in nearly 43 percent of cases.
The audits will help prevent data breaches, detect cyber intrusions and improve recovery of defrauded funds by up to 80 percent.
Conducted under CERT-IN guidelines, the initiative will cover urban and rural banks, with police and CID cyber experts providing support.
