Dhan Singh Rawat, Cooperation Minister of Uttarakhand, on Thursday chaired an important review meeting with District Assistant Registrars and General Managers of District Cooperative Banks to assess the rising issue of Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in the cooperative banking sector.
The meeting was held at the minister’s official residence in Yamuna Colony, where officials were directed to intensify recovery drives during March to strengthen the financial position of cooperative banks and ensure that more beneficiaries receive the benefits of government schemes.
In a major announcement, Rawat said the state government has decided to establish three new district cooperative banks in Rudraprayag, Champawat and Bageshwar. Additionally, 55 new bank branches will be opened across the state to improve access to banking services in rural areas.
The move aims to strengthen the cooperative banking network and provide better financial services closer to people in remote regions. Senior officials, including the Registrar of Cooperatives and Managing Director of the State Cooperative Bank, were also present at the meeting.
