Uttarakhand Cooperation Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat visited the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank (GSCB) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, where he was warmly welcomed by GSCB Chairman Ajay Patel.
The visit aimed to understand the best practices of Gujarat’s cooperative sector with a view to strengthening Uttarakhand’s cooperative institutions.
Dr. Rawat reviewed GSCB’s operational framework, financial management strategies, and rural outreach mechanisms. He appreciated the bank’s digital banking systems, streamlined loan disbursement procedures, and efficient mechanisms for recovering non-performing assets (NPAs).
He also held detailed discussions with GSCB officials on cooperative governance, rural economic development, and the use of digital technologies. Inspired by the Gujarat model, Dr. Rawat emphasized accelerating NPA recovery in Uttarakhand and implementing the learnings from this visit through a structured action plan.
The Managing Director of GSCB presented a detailed overview of the bank’s history, financial performance, and future plans, highlighting innovations such as mobile van banking to promote financial inclusion in rural areas.
The meeting was attended by key officials from Uttarakhand, including Secretary of Cooperation Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam, Joint Registrar Neeraj Belwal, Mangala Prasad Tripathi, among others.
