The government is actively promoting the socio-economic development of tribal communities through various schemes, with Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) playing a key role under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM).

TRIFED has empanelled 56 artisans, producers, and suppliers from Bihar’s Tharu community, benefitting 405 families through improved marketing of their products. In parallel, the Ministry of Textiles is supporting tribal artisans via the National Handicraft Development Programme and Handicrafts Cluster Development Scheme, offering training, marketing, and infrastructure support.

Notably, 646 Pahchan ID cards have been issued to tribal artisans in West Champaran for access to e-commerce and exhibitions. The Bihar government, through the Integrated Tharuhat Development Agency and Jeevika, has also linked over 77,000 families to self-help groups for sustainable livelihoods in the Tharuhat region.
