In a significant boost to the cooperative credit ecosystem, the Union Government on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that 30,147 tribal farmers in Dahod Lok Sabha constituency of Gujarat have been brought under the ambit of RuPay Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) through District Central Cooperative Banks.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated that the initiative, implemented under the ‘Cooperation among Cooperatives’ campaign launched on May 21, 2023, has strengthened grassroots financial inclusion.
According to data shared by the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) Gujarat, these KCCs have enabled credit access not only to farmers but also to members of dairy and forest produce cooperative societies, highlighting the integrated cooperative model.
A total of Rs 183.79 crore has been sanctioned under the scheme since its launch, compared to Rs 61.68 crore outstanding earlier, marking a sharp expansion in cooperative-led rural credit delivery.
The development underscores the growing role of cooperatives in empowering tribal economies.
