TN: Tribal families reoccupy land from milk co-ops

Some 80 tribal families have occupied 11 acres of land belonging to the Tamil Nadu cooperative milk producers’ union laying their claim to it as their ancestral land in Vazhaithottam in the buffer zone of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) in Tamil Nadu, reports Hindu.

Tribals say the land had been taken from them by the cooperative in 1982, after they were promised jobs and cattle.

Tribals complain neither the milk co-operative nor the district administration helped them at over the last decades. The tribal families have put up tents with plastic sheet roofs over the last few days, with women and children camping on the occupied land.
