Tamil Nadu has emerged as the State with the highest Gross Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) in Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), followed by Telangana and Karnataka.

Replying to a question, Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that as per data provided by NABARD, Gross NPAs in Women SHGs across the country stood significant as on September 30, 2025. Tamil Nadu alone reported NPAs of Rs 1.36 lakh crore (Rs 1,35,966 lakh), the highest among all States and Union Territories.

Telangana ranked second with Rs 61,682 lakh, followed by Karnataka (Rs 58,246 lakh), West Bengal (Rs 53,106 lakh) and Andhra Pradesh (Rs 40,763 lakh). Together, these five States account for a substantial share of total NPAs in Women SHGs nationwide.

The Minister said NABARD continues to monitor SHG-linked credit performance, while corrective measures are undertaken to strengthen repayment discipline and sustain women-led financial inclusion.
