Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami recently told the state Assembly that efforts would be made to boost agriculture and horticulture sectors in the state, reports Hindu.

He said loans of Rs 266 crore will be given through NABKISAN Finance Ltd., a subsidiary of NABARD, for the benefit of farmer producer organizations (FPOs).

Infrastructures such as 90 regulated markets, 100 Uzhavar Sandhais (farmers’ markets), seed processing units and value addition units for coconut at Kanyakumari will soon be created.

Solar powered cold storage at Madurai, Salem, Erode, Thoothukudi and Kancheepuram districts will also be set up, the chief minister said.

Paliniswami told the house that the state govt. would liberally spend money on strengthening cooperatives working in various fields in the state.
