In a striking reminder that every vote truly counts, a dramatic electoral outcome in Tamil Nadu has proven the power of a single ballot. K. R. Periyakaruppan, Cooperation Minister from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), lost his election by just one vote.
His opponent, Seenivasa Sethupathy R. of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured a narrow yet historic victory, also decided by a single vote. Periyakaruppan received 83,374 votes, while Sethupathy polled 83,375 votes.
The razor-thin margin has sparked widespread discussion across political circles and among voters, highlighting the critical importance of participation in the democratic process. What is often said, “every vote matters”, has now turned into a real-life example that could not be more compelling.
This extraordinary result serves as a powerful lesson for voters across the country: even a single vote can change the course of leadership and governance.
