Chikyala Harish Kumar, a Nirmal District Cooperative Central Bank director and BRS leader, was allegedly kidnapped from his Ponkal village home in Mamada mandal late Saturday night.
Police said unknown men abducted Harish around 2 am while he was asleep, blindfolded and tied him before attempting to take him to Hyderabad. Harish escaped at a toll plaza in Toopran and alerted police.
A case has been registered. Officials are probing a ransom demand of ?3 crore and suspect financial disputes or political rivalry behind the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
