Tamil Nadu Information Technology Minister M Manikandan distributed Rs 8.19 crore to scores of people from cooperative societies and shields to best cooperative societies during 64th All India Cooperative Week function in Tiruchi, reports Hindu.
The minister said farmers were being given loans through cooperative societies and a target of Rs 82 crores had been set for this year.
The minister distributed shields to 13 cooperative societies for their best performance.
The Tiruchi District Collector S. Natarajan said the AICI had sanctioned additional crop insurance of Rs. 43.5 crore and the amount would be disbursed to the left out farmers soon. Earlier, the district administration had distributed about Rs. 458 crore as crop insurance to farmers.
