The leadership of the Malegaon Cooperative Sugar Factory is set to shift to Sunetra Pawar following the untimely demise of senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar. Pawar had recently assumed charge as Chairman of the factory but tragically passed away in a plane crash on January 28, leaving the post vacant.
A meeting of the board of directors has been scheduled on Wednesday at the factory’s auditorium in Malegaon. Sunetra Pawar, who recently took charge in related cooperative responsibilities, is expected to attend the meeting. Earlier, at a meeting held at the Sahyog Society in Baramati, directors resolved that she should accept the responsibility of Chairperson.
In the 2025–26 five-year elections held on June 24, 2025, Ajit Pawar-led Nilkantheshwar Panel secured a sweeping victory, winning 20 of the 21 seats, while the rival panel managed to win only one seat.
