The District Milk Cooperative Department has revived six long-defunct milk cooperative societies in the district over the past six months till December 2025, providing fresh livelihood support to over 60 dairy farmers, media outlets say.
The revived societies include Nakkalapatti, M Kilapatti, Samanilaipatti, Anaikaruppatti, Tatchipatti and S Velapatti. Officials said financial constraints and low cattle ownership had earlier stalled operations.
To address this, 10 active members were identified in each society and provided loans, with Rs 36 lakh disbursed in total. The initiative has strengthened grassroots milk production, contributing to the district’s supply to Aavin.
Farmer representatives welcomed the move but sought higher subsidies on cattle feed to support smallholders.
