The Sikkim State Cooperative Union celebrated its 24th Foundation Day at Pakyong on April 2, with B. B. Chettri as chief guest. The event witnessed participation from panchayat representatives, officials, educators and students, with a focus on promoting cooperative awareness among youth.
An awareness session led by Cooperative Development Officer Jitman Rai introduced students to cooperative principles, history and the role of multi-purpose societies. CEO Phadung Bhutia highlighted SICUN’s journey since its establishment in 2002 and its contribution to capacity building.
A quiz competition for students added engagement to the programme. Addressing the gathering, Chettri lauded SICUN’s achievements, noting it has trained over 1,500 individuals, and urged students to actively engage with the cooperative sector for future opportunities and inclusive development.
