Sikkim State Co-op Bank holds SGM, Launches UPI Service

The Sikkim State Cooperative Bank (SISCO Bank) held its first-ever Special General Meeting (SGM) at a local hotel in Gangtok on Thursday.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman Dup Pintso Kaleon, in the presence of Advisor Chaitanaya Sharma, Vice Chairman Kishor Kumar Sharma, and Additional Registrar of Cooperative Societies (Cooperation Department) Sarda Roka.

The SGM was convened to discuss and adopt key amendments to the Bank’s Bye-Laws as recommended by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Government of Sikkim. The proposed changes focus on ensuring equitable territorial representation and introducing a five-year rotational policy for reserved categories, including Women and SC/ST representatives, across districts.

Chairman Kaleon emphasized that the amendments reflect SISCO Bank’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and democratic governance within the cooperative structure. He added that the revised framework would be submitted to the RCS for final approval under Section 31 of the Sikkim Cooperative Societies Act, 1978.

During the meeting, SISCO Bank also officially launched its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service, marking a major step toward digital transformation and cashless banking across Sikkim. The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a farewell to retiring staff member, Padma Bahadur Basnet.
