The Government of Sikkim concluded the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 with a day-long state-level valedictory programme organised by the Cooperation Department at the Sikkim State Cooperative Union, Assam Lingzey, reaffirming the importance of cooperatives in inclusive growth and community development.
The programme, themed “Cooperatives Build a Better World”, was attended by Minister for Cooperation and Rural Development Arun Kumar Upreti as chief guest and Advisor to the Cooperation Department Shyam Pradhan as special guest. Representatives from apex cooperative institutions, banks, federations and sectoral cooperatives from agriculture, dairy, consumer and handicrafts sectors took part.
Addressing the gathering, Upreti said cooperatives embody collective effort and remain vital for grassroots development. He referred to the vision of Sahakar Se Samriddhi and emphasised transparency, accountability and effectiveness in cooperative functioning. He noted the sector’s role in employment generation and self-reliance.
Advisor Shyam Pradhan highlighted cooperatives as drivers of economic development and social cohesion. Principal Registrar-cum-Secretary Jabi Thapa reviewed year-long activities and outlined priorities ahead. The programme included presentations, panel discussions, cultural events, awareness activities and awards recognising contributions during IYC 2025.
