The Office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) has issued a show cause notice to Chatrapati Multi-State Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., following serious findings during an inspection conducted by the Government of Maharashtra.
The notice, issued on 3rd November 2025, refers to a communication from the Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Government of Maharashtra, dated 26th August 2025, which stated that an inspection of the society under Section 108 of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002 was carried out by a Special Auditor (Class-II) from Beed district.
As per the report, an FIR (No. 0379/25 dated 18th June 2025) was registered against the society at Gevrai Police Station, Beed. The records were seized, and the head office was sealed by the police authorities, preventing completion of the inspection. In view of these developments, the Maharashtra Registrar recommended the appointment of a liquidator in accordance with the provisions of the MSCS Act, 2002.
The CRCS office also observed that the society has not filed its mandatory annual returns under Section 120 of the MSCS Act, 2002- a clear violation of statutory requirements.
Accordingly, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the society have been directed to submit their explanation within 10 days from the date of uploading of the notice on the CRCS portal.
The notice warns that if no reply is received within the stipulated period, it will be presumed that the society has nothing to state in the matter, and appropriate action will be initiated under the provisions of the MSCS Act, 2002, and the rules framed thereunder.
The action was taken with the approval of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
Earlier in June 2025, the Chhatrapati Multi-State Cooperative Society had hogged media headlines after a farmer ended his life outside its Gevrai branch, unable to withdraw his hard-earned deposits.
