At CoopKumbh 2025, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah commended the Reserve Bank of India for addressing key challenges faced by the Urban Cooperative Banking sector and said the government is working closely with the RBI to resolve remaining issues soon.
Shah noted that in the last two years, NPAs in UCBs have significantly reduced, reflecting better governance and discipline in the sector.
He said the next phase of reform must focus on modern IT infrastructure and tech-driven employee training to make cooperative banks more efficient and customer-friendly.
He also encouraged the conversion of strong credit societies into banks to expand financial inclusion. “Cooperative banks have the power to uplift small individuals and local entrepreneurs. With technology and trust, we can make cooperation the backbone of India’s economy,” he asserted.
