SC on TN co-op elections: Hold results till final decision

The Supreme Court has not stayed the ongoing election process for posts in over 18,000 cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu, reports Press Trust of India.

The apex court directed the Tamil Nadu State Cooperatives Election Commission not to declare the results until a decision is taken on its petition.

The Tamil Nadu State Cooperatives Election Commission had moved the top court against a ruling of the Madras High Court ordering “status quo” on the poll process and sought records, pertaining to nominations filed and rejected, from the panel.

Opposition DMK MLA had told the court that there had been irregularities in the polls and that candidates in almost 85 per cent of the societies had been declared elected unopposed.

The Supreme Court directed the Tamil Nadu Cooperatives Election Commission and the DMK MLA to file affidavits with regard to the total number of nominations and the rejections in the elections.
