Saraswat Co-operative Bank Ltd., one of India’s leading scheduled urban cooperative banks, has expressed deep grief over the passing of its former Senior Director, Shankar N. Sawaikar, who breathed his last on Sunday, 18 January 2026. He was 87.
In a social media post, the numero uno of UCB sector says “Born on 15 August 1938, Sawaikar served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Saraswat Bank from 2011 to 2025 and played a pivotal role in the bank’s strategic and operational transformation. Known for his vast experience, integrity, and visionary approach, he was a guiding force on the Board and made significant contributions to strengthening governance and efficiency.”
One of his most notable achievements was the successful implementation of the Bank’s Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) project, which helped modernise systems and improve customer-centric operations.
The Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of Saraswat Co-operative Bank Ltd. have condoled his demise and paid tribute to his invaluable service to the institution.
