A news agency reports Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse said there was a necessity to make amendments in the Cooperative Act following the increasing incidence of graft and mismanagement in cooperative bodies.

Mr Khadse was addressing a “Sahakar Gaurav” awards distribution function comprising “Sahakar Maharshree”, “Sahakar Bhushan” and “Sahakar Nistha” to about 45 different cooperative institutions and persons, who worked remarkably in the cooperative field in the state.

Mr Khadse said in last six months of the BJP-Shiv Sena government, various amendments in the Cooperation Act had been made and necessary measures initiated to reform the cooperative sector.

The government he said would all in its power to help farmers with seeds and fertilisers at reasonable prices.
