Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha that 61,478 Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) have been fully computerised and onboarded onto Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software under the Centre’s ambitious Computerization of PACS Project.
Out of a total 79,630 PACS taken up nationwide, the digitised societies are now equipped to offer online accounting, transparent bookkeeping, and improved member services, marking a major leap in modernising grassroots cooperative institutions.
Shah stated that the Ministry of Cooperation has released Rs 1,073.98 crore as Central assistance for the project. Of this, Rs 908.06 crore has been disbursed to participating States and Union Territories, while Rs 165.92 crore has been released to NABARD, the implementing agency.
Looking ahead, the government has set a target to digitally expand the project to an additional 11,700 PACS in the upcoming financial year. With this, the total number of PACS sanctioned under the nationwide digitisation initiative stands at 79,630.
