RAJFED AGM: Co-ops urged to diversify beyond traditional roles

Emphasising the need for growth and sustainability, Dr. Samit Sharma, Secretary of the Cooperation Department and Administrator of RAJFED, called on cooperative societies to expand their business activities and explore new income streams alongside their traditional functions.

Addressing the 69th Annual General Meeting of RAJFED at Nehru Sahakar Bhawan on Friday, he highlighted that cooperatives have long played a key role in improving farmers’ livelihoods. He noted that procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has contributed significantly to India’s food self-sufficiency, while stressing the need to now promote organic farming and millets for better nutrition and sustainable agriculture.

RAJFED Managing Director Bachnesh Kumar Agrawal informed that Rs 183 crore in pending dues has recently been released to purchase and sale cooperative societies. He also encouraged societies to reduce reliance on government procurement by exploring opportunities in seed production, organic farming and exports.

The meeting concluded with approval of key agenda items and participation from cooperative leaders and officials across the state.
