Rajasthan: Scramble for urea leads to lathi-charge

All the arguments about urea shortage becoming a stuff of past were thrown to winds when police had to lathi-charge as farmers became restive after not getting urea in the in Baran district of Rajasthan, reports PTI.

The distressed farmers resorted to an agitation which led the police to do a lathi charge on them. According to PTI, there have been reports of people jumping queues to collect urea at a mandi.

Around 500 farmers assembled this morning in Krishi Upaj Mandi Samiti premises in Cipabarode town to collect slips for urea bags when some of them broke queues and created a ruckus, the DSP told PTI.

The neem coating of urea- touted as one of the major achievements of Modi govt which checked black marketing of urea in the country, has made such incidents far and few.

Yet on times stories of scramble for urea keep coming media headlines. Bihar is one such state where such incidents have been reported in these columns in the past.
