Railway: Co-ops eager to accept Prabhu’s offer
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

During a visit to Kolhapur a few months ago, railway minister Suresh Prabhu had also suggested that he would welcome the redevelopment plan of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Terminus, if the cooperative institutes from Kolhapur jointly raise funds for it. There has been a demand for redevelopment of the station, but it was rejected due to lack of funds.

Cooperatives in Kolhapur in Maharashtra have shown interest in getting involved in the central govt.’s re-development plan of railway stations falling in the region. The central govt. has already approved the plan for over 400 stations through privatization across the country.

There are 38 such stations in Maharashtra including Kolhapur and Pune, reports Nagpur Today.

Cooperator Dhananjay Mahadik is quoted as saying ” the major sugar factories in the state are from Kolhapur. We will certainly like to help the railways in all the possible ways.

I will personally follow up the issue with other factory workers as well as with the railway officials to share the details of the redevelopment plan so that the cooperative sugar factories and societies can hold meetings at their level to decide their share of contribution.”
