In a major boost to Assam’s cooperative dairy sector, foundation stones for three new milk processing plants were laid at Jorhat, Dibrugarh, and Dhemaji, marking a significant expansion of Purabi Dairy infrastructure in Upper Assam.
The main ceremony took place in Jorhat where Assam’s Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Krishnendu Paul laid the foundation stone in the presence of Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board, and senior officials.
Separate Bhoomi Pujan ceremonies were held in Dhemaji and Dibrugarh, led by ministers Ranoj Pegu and Prasanta Phukan respectively.
The Jorhat plant will be set up by the East Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited with support under the National Programme for Dairy Development, while the Dibrugarh and Dhemaji plants will be established by North East Dairy and Foods Limited, a joint venture between the Assam government and NDDB.
Addressing the gathering via video message, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said the new plants will strengthen cooperative dairying and bring more farmers into organised milk procurement systems under the vision of White Revolution 2.0.
