According to Punjab Express News reports, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had a meeting with the top officials of Cooperative Department, SUGARFED and the dept of Finance to discuss the steps needed to strengthen sugar mills finances in the state.
Harpal Singh ordered Rs 10 crore to be immediately released to pay the salaries and retirement dues pertaining to the Fazilka Sugar Mill.
Calling sugar mills the backbone of the cooperative sector in Punjab, the minister underlined the govt’s resolve to keep them afloat.
