Prabhu cites IFFCO as a model co-operative

In his short speech made on the occasion of inauguration of the 12th ICA-AP Regional Assembly and the 9th Cooperative Forum in Delhi Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu named IFFCO at least a dozen times as a model of success in the cooperative sector.

Prabhu said when a cooperative is successful it not only benefits the top leadership but is also a boon to ordinary members.

Comparing the superiority of the cooperative model over corporates he said even the Chairman of IFFCO B S Nakai has just one vote as any other delegates unlike Corporates where the size of your share decides your role. He said democracy is at its best in a cooperative like IFFCO.

Stressing on the need to adopt the cooperative model the Union Rilway Minister said when all ideologies have failed the only way a nation can be built is through cooperatives. He referred to communism and capitalism in this context.

Lag between social and cooperative aspects of life is stark but harmony between the two is possible only in the cooperative model, Prabhu noted.  He took IFFCO’s name in this context where the farmers are a happy lot.

”I was the youngest Chairman of the largest urban cooperative bank and I know the difference”, he said reminding cooperators of his past connection with Saraswat Bank where he was the Chairman once.

”I have come here not as a Union Minister but as a humble cooperator,” he said. Later in the evening in the welcome dinner the Minister came along with his spouse as promised. Cooperators were full of praise for him on the occasion.
