Addressing the nation on the 79th Independence Day from the historic Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for India to achieve self-reliance in the fertilizers sector, on the lines of the country’s vision for energy independence.
The Prime Minister underlined that India continues to depend on imports for a large part of its fertilizer requirement. Stressing the importance of soil health, he appealed to farmers to adopt balanced and scientific use of fertilizers, warning that indiscriminate usage causes long-term damage to “Mother Earth.”
Modi urged the youth, industry, and private sector to unite in creating strong domestic reserves and innovative solutions for indigenous fertilizer production. “Let us fill our reserves of fertilizers. Let us discover new methods. Let us produce fertilizers according to India’s needs. Let us not remain dependent on others,” he said.
Cooperatives such as IFFCO and Kribhco, with their longstanding contribution in strengthening fertilizer production and promoting sustainable practices, are expected to play a crucial role in realizing this national resolve. The Government has reiterated its commitment to work with industry, researchers, and states to cut import dependence.
