Petition against sugar export

A sugar co-operative from Maharashtra has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court challenging the constitutionality of the central govt.’s incentive scheme to promote sugar export.

The scheme has been challenged on the ground that the import -based refineries that would benefit from the scheme barely contribute to the sugar development fund.

However, the petition filed by the Warna sugar cooperative from Kolhapur is yet to be admitted. Sources say the central govt. scheme rife with infirmities may not be able to leap the legal hurdles being raised against it.
