Patel agitation takes toll on co-op banks

By way of offering economic non-cooperation as part of their demand for affirmative action, a large number of Patel account holders collected at the Kherol village branch of Sabarkantha district cooperative bank to withdraw a whopping sum of Rs. 9 crore – a demand the branch of the bank found difficult to meet, reports PTI.

Branch manager of the district cooperative bank is quoted as saying about 200 members of the Patel community, who are associated with the stir for reservation, came to our bank to withdraw their money, he told PTI.

The manager assured the account holders that the bank will soon return their entire cash. The Patel community in Gujarat is agitating for reservation under OBC quota.
