IFFCO MD Dr. U S Awasthi is one of the first to congratulate Devendra Jhajharia who won gold in the men’s javelin throw F46 event at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
With Devendra’s gold India has won altogether four medals out of which two are gold, one silver and one bronze.
A champion of sports activities in one of the largest cooperatives in the world IFFCO MD tweeted Wednesday morning “Congratulations #DevendraJhajharia for winning #gold medal in men’s javelin throw. Clinched India’s 2nd #gold at #RioParalympics #Rio2016.”
Jhajharia had earlier won gold in the javelin event in the 2004 Athens Paralympics. Fellow Indian Rinku Hooda finished fifth in the event in Rio.
The Rajasthan born athlete, with an amputated left hand, was awarded the Arjuna award in 2004 and the Padma Shri in 2012.
When he was eight years old he was electrocuted while climbing a tree and his left hand had to be amputated. His life story is one of not accepting defeat come what may.
Deepa Malik had bagged India’s silver medal at the Paralympic Games in shotput on Monday.
