The Odisha govt. has finally shown willingness to hold elections to about eleven thousand cooperative bodies in the state.
The govt has recently made an announcement to this effect. The cooperative sector’s reaction to the announcement has been one of shock and disbelief.
Earlier the BJD govt. had repeatedly refused to hold elections on one pretext or another giving rise to the optics of the Patnaik govt denying democracy to the cooperative sector.
The latter had elections seven years ago.
