In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation), the Lathikata LAMPCS in Sundargarh, Odisha, launched a Jan Aushadhi Kendra on 31st January 2025, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) with the support of the Ministry of Cooperation.
In just 100 days, the centre has made a remarkable impact by providing affordable medicines to over 2,400 patients, including senior citizens and economically weaker individuals. The initiative has led to savings of up to 90% on essential medicines for the local population.
The centre also offers women’s hygiene products at highly subsidized rates, ensuring access to health and dignity for all. Beyond healthcare, the Jan Aushadhi Kendra has become a model of rural economic empowerment.
The cooperative now earns a stable monthly income of Rs 25,000–Rs 30,000, strengthening its financial foundation.
Importantly, the initiative has also generated employment for two local unemployed youths, showcasing how cooperative ventures can drive both social welfare and economic upliftment in underserved regions.
